Oil Separation On Storage of Grease
The Oil Separation on Storage of Grease test method measures the stability of lubricating grease against oil separation during storage. It uses an apparatus that conforms to IP 121 and DIN 51817 standards.
The setup includes a stainless steel separation cup with a 240-mesh woven wire cloth cone, a 100 g metal weight, and an oil cup. To conduct the test, a grease sample is placed on the wire mesh cone and loaded with the metal weight. The percentage of sample weight lost is calculated after a 42-hour storage period, indicating the grease’s oil separation stability.
